Biography

Justin K. Schwemmer practices in civil litigation. He has also focused on the areas of art and entertainment law, especially in the music, film, and book-publishing industries; and criminal defense, including white-collar crime and juvenile proceedings. Mr. Schwemmer has also represented and counseled clients on religious organization and church law, wills and trusts, estate administration, business formation and transactions, and family law. He is admitted to the Indiana state bar and the United States District Courts for the Districts of Southern Indiana, Northern Indiana, and Maryland. Justin's professional philosophy is one of ardent service with compassion, integrity, and insight.

Justin is an adjunct instructor at Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs, where he is teaching the core course Legal Issues in the Arts to students working toward a Master of Arts degree in Arts Administration.

Justin has spoken to the public on numerous occasions, on legal issues ranging from police encounters to transgender rights. He has volunteered with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service; as well as with the Council for Social Development, the Asmita Resource Centre for Women, and the Shaheen Women's Resource & Welfare Association, in Hyderabad, India. In addition to various professional associations, Mr. Schwemmer is an active member and Legal Observer of the National Lawyers Guild, and an active member of Phi Delta Phi International legal honor society and American Mensa.

Justin graduated from Indiana University Bloomington's Maurer School of Law, where he was an E.W. Kintner Scholar, Milton Stewart Fellow, Holdeen Scholar, IU Law and Society Fellow, and Managing Editor of the Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality. He is originally from Baltimore, Maryland, where he spent about a decade managing several film exhibition theaters. He graduated cum laude from Towson University with a double major in philosophy and comparative religion and a minor in anthropology, after which he lived in Kerala and Goa, India, engaged in ethnographic field work. Mr. Schwemmer has also published a number of articles in the fields of jurisprudence, philosophy, and anthropology.
